Vincent Marsico Obituary

Vincent J. Marsico

1921 - 2018

COLUMBUS -  Vincent James Marsico, 97, died at 7:50 am on Sunday, October 28, 2018 at Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital in Westerville, OH.

Born Vincenzo Umberto Marsico on June 11, 1921 in Colobraro, Italy, he immigrated to the US at the age of seven.  He was the son of Federico and Raffaella Bellitto Marsico and grew up in Niles, OH along with his 5 sisters who affectionately called him Jimmy.

He was an amazing cook and enjoyed making the homemade recipes he learned from his mother including various pastas, pizza, meatballs, tomato sauce, cannoli’s and so many other delicious foods he prepared for family and friends.  He loved feeding people and family dinners were an incredible feast.  He also enjoyed Ballroom dancing, traveling, watching football and basketball, and golf.  One of our favorite memories was traveling with him to his hometown in Italy to meet some of his family and see the home where he was born.

Vincent served in in the Navy as a Gunners’ Mate during WWII and the Korean War.  He also taught new midshipmen about these weapons at the Great Lakes Naval Academy.  He sold Life Insurance (Metropolitan) and later owned several businesses in Salem, OH for many years.

Vincent was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Louise (2017), his son James (2016) and his sisters, Mary Marsico, Rose Mastromatteo, Adeline Trobek, Rita Stuart and brother Matthew who died before the family immigrated to America.

He is survived by sister Beverly (Tom Findish), brother-in-law, Alexander “Sandy” Stuart (Lucy), son David (Jana) Marsico, daughter-in-law, Susan Dodge Marsico, granddaughters Amy (Nicholas Troccoli), Erin (Ed Kagel), Annie (John Oswalt), Carly (Dave Hazard) and Chelsea; a great grandson (Daniel Kagel) who he enjoyed “talking golf” with, two great granddaughters, Elena Kagel (who he shared an affinity for all things sweet), and Sally Marsico-Oswalt (our newest addition), and several nieces and nephews.  He was most proud of his family and relished the fact that they all graduated from college.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10am Monday, November 5, 2018 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Niles where he was devoted to his faith and a lifelong member.  Entombment will take place at Crown Hill Burial Park in Vienna following the Mass.  A memorial luncheon will follow.  There will be no calling hours.

The family wishes to thank Comfort Keepers’ staff, especially Martha and Alsonia, for their wonderful care, kindness and compassion.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks material donations be made to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, Neurology Department in Vincent’s name.  To donate or for more information, call (513) 636-4484 or go to www.cincinnatichildrens.org/donate.
