Girard - Burton E. Thorpe, Jr. 91, died Sunday, September 3, 2017 at his residence.
Mr. Thorpe was born March 1, 1926, in Girard, the son of Burton E. and Edna (Hershel) Thorpe, Sr.
Burton served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, in the Pacific Theatre.
He worked for Youngstown Sheet & Tube for 28 years as a railroad brakeman, retiring in 1982.
Burton married Shirley (Giering) Thorpe in 1959.
He was a member of the Shiloh Full Gospel Church in Girard and enjoyed woodworking, crafts, traveling and especially, his family.
Burton leaves behind his sons, Jeff Thorpe of Girard and Richard (Janice) Thorpe of Wickliffe; step-children, Sherry (Don) Grant of Valparaiso, IN, Bob (Cindy) McMahon of Seattle, WA, and Barry (Nancy) McMahon of Youngstown; grandchildren, Richard, of Cleveland, Anna of Toledo, Burt of Girard and Robert of Cleveland; great-grandchildren, Burt Jr. of Girard, Avery of Toledo and Isiah and Sabrina Thorpe of Cleveland.
Burton's parents; wife, Shirley; brother, Don; sisters Connie Arnold, Millie Arnold and Jerry Harper preceded him in death.
Visitation for Burton will be from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm, with the funeral service to follow at 1:00 pm, Saturday, September 9th, at Shiloh Full Gospel Church, 1310 Shannon Rd, Girard, OH 44420.
Pastor Nicholas Furrie will officiate.
Burial will take place in Crown Hill Burial Park.
Selby-T. J. Fox Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
