1922 - 2010

Carmel A. Vennetti, 88, entered peacefully into eternal rest on November 21, 2010, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born February 17, 1922 in Niles, Ohio, the daughter of Theresa and Anthony Salerno. She married the love of her life, William T. Vennetti, on December 24, 1942. Together they raised four children and created a lifetime of loving memories. They liked to socialize and were members of the Latin Culture Foundation. Bill loved to golf, and Carmel became an avid golfer, too. She volunteered with the LPGA for 25 years. They especially loved to have family and friends over for big dinners, carrying on many of their family traditions. Holidays were filled with love and boisterous laughter and tons of good food, thanks to Bill and Carmel.

Carmel was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to many. She was very proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her unconditional love never ceased. There was nothing she would not do for someone in need. Most of her time was spent doing for others in some way, big or small, whether through her loving actions or her kind words.

Always energetic, witty, feisty, and full of life, Carmel put her family and friends before her own needs. She was passionate about her family and loved to pamper them, always with a smile on her face-or a wise crack to make them laugh. Carmel was a fabulous cook, and could whip up a gourmet meal at the last minute for anyone who happened to stop by, day or night. Friends and strangers alike were always welcome in the Vennetti home.

Filled with compassion and interest in others, Carmel made friends easily and maintained contact with many throughout the years. She spent much of her life helping family and friends during times of illness or need. Even into her 80's Carmel was a volunteer at TrumbullMemorialHospital, where she had been a volunteer for 20 years.

She could do just about anything she set her mind to; and once she set her mind to do something, there was no stopping her. Sometimes, things did not work out as planned, but assuredly, there was never a dull moment if Carmel was present.

To her children, there was no greater mom. She was our greatest fan, the most devoted and proud mother, best friend, and confidante. Her deep love is forever etched in our hearts, her kind words and support forever in our memories.

Her presence made life so much easier for everyone around her. She will be missed immensely, but we are forever grateful for her. It was a wonderful run, and the world is a much better place because she was here.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, sisters, Mary Cannell and Rose Butto, brothers, Maurice and Frank Salerno, and grandson, Marcello Scavnicky.

She leaves to cherish her memory, Brother Joseph Salerno; Children, Gerry (Danny) Fleming, William (Barbara) Vennetti, Gwen (Michael DeMathews) Vennetti, and Theresa (John) Carr; Grandchildren, Lidia Whitfield of Campbell, Kristen (Rob) Hamrick of Columbus, Gabriella Gliatta of Columbus, and Kenneth (Lori) Scavnicky of Las Vegas; Great –grandchildren Veronica (Nick) Getsy, Edward and Ronnie Whitfield, all of Campbell, Chase and Luke Hamrick of Columbus, and Marcello Scavnicky of Las Vegas, and very special friend Cathleen Drombetta.

The Vennetti family would like to thank the staff at The Inn of Christine Valley, all her caregivers, and Dr. Joseph Zeno.
