FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Domingo L. Fernandez, 69, formerly of Warren, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 10, 2015, in Ft. Lauderdale.
He was born June 9, 1945, in Quintana de la Serena, Badajoz, Spain, the son of the late Juan de Dios and Visitacion Fernandez.
After attending school in Quintana, Domingo immigrated to the United States, where he continued his education. He graduated from Youngstown State University with a bachelor's degree, Kent State University with a master's degree and The Ohio State University with a Ph.D., where he was a professor of linguistics.
Domingo moved to Ft. Lauderdale in 1978, where he partnered in a Hallmark business. After he retired in 2006, he joined the family business, Innovative Health and Wellness, until the time of his death.
In addition to the love of his family, Domingo loved animals, traveling, collecting watches, fine art and was an avid tennis enthusiast.
Domingo is survived by his four sisters, Maria (Tony) Lambea, Ana Buckner, Emilia (Manuel) Nogales and Laly (Dr. Stephen) Silverstein; nieces and nephews, Anna, Debbie, Jose, John, Lisa, Tula, Linda and Scott and their spouses; a host of great-nieces and great-nephews; two "great-great-nieces or great-great-nephews" on the way; cousins and many dear friends whom he considered his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother; a sister; and a brother-in-law, Charles Buckner.
Domingo enjoyed life to the fullest and did whatever he could to make others happy. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Dr. Steve Silverstein and his team of medical specialists, and the nurses at Broward Health Imperial Point Hospital in Fort Lauderdale.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Domingo's name to the Warren Family Mission.
Private services will be held today. Entombment will be in Crown Hill Mausoleum in Vienna.
