1922 - 2010
Edward William Kush, 88, of Warren went to join his love, Phyllis, Tuesday
morning at 3:58 a.m. at Geauga Community Hospital following a short courageous battle with heart illness with his boys and family at his side.
Edward was a wonderful, caring, generous, loving man. He was always a joy to be around. He was funny, sweet and strong. He always told you like it was and had great advice and was a patient, avid listener.
He was born on Oak Street in Youngstown, Ohio on May 15, 1922, the son of Elizabeth and Michael Kush.
His parents Elizabeth Turocey and Michael Neal Kush, his wife Phyllis Grace (Lowry) Kush preceded him in death as did a grandson Marcus Edward Kush.
Ed is survived by his two sons, William Edward and (Cassandra Robinson) Kush, of Warren, Melenie Grace (James) Restuccio, granddaughter of Columbus; Eric Michael and (Richele Hitchcock) Kush, of Warren, Morgan Celia Kush, granddaughter of Warren. A sister Virginia and (Phillip) Musick of California and their daughter Kathy of California also survive him.
Edward went to Warren City Schools and played football for East Jr. High and WarrenG.HardingHigh School and later attended YoungstownStateUniversity. It was at Harding High that he met and later married Phyllis Grace Lowry. They were married on June 24, 1944 at Camp Gruber in Muskogee County, Oklahoma were he was attending AST Iowa State University for the Army. He entered into WWII on December 14, 1942 with the 42nd Rainbow Division and ended his service in 1946. Ed received the Infantry Combat Medal, the ETO and the Bronze Star.
After the war he returned home to Phyllis and his job at Ohio Public Service which later became Ohio Edison. Ed worked there for 42 years retiring as an Engineer in 1984. Ed and Phyllis celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1994 and were married for 59 years before her passing.
Ed was an avid golfer and played in a men's golf league with Ohio Edison and a men's and couples league at Northwood with the Warren Elks Club. Ed also made many yearly trips with his buddies down south to golf to Southern Pines in North Carolina and BushGardens in Georgia. Ed enjoyed Dixieland, New Orleans Jazz and Big Band music. In later years he kept his mind sharp by doing crossword puzzles, word games and documenting any statistics.
He had a special place in his heart for his boys and my brother and I will
miss him dearly.
There will be calling hours and an Elks Service at 10:00 a.m. Monday at Crown Hill Chapel Mausoleum in Vienna, the funeral service at 11am with Military burial to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made to the Warren Elks 295, Veterans' Fund.
