Frank R. Crew 1939 - 2013
Frank Robert Crew, 92, of Howland passed away peacefully Friday afternoon at Gillette Nursing Home in Warren with his daughter and son-in-law at his side. The son of John and Myrtle (Harris) Crew, Frank was born October 2, 1920 in Racine, Ohio. On June 27, 1939 he married Lucille Eyrich Crew with whom he spent 56 years of marriage before her passing in 1995. In 1944 Frank enlisted into the United States Navy where he served his country aboard a submarine hunting vessel during WWII.
Frank worked for Youngstown Steel Car Corp. from 1941 to 1957, he later went on to work for Sears Roebuck and Co. starting as a service man. He retired from the company with the title of parts manager in the service department.
He also ran a small business called Crew Sharpening Service for a number of years and could fix almost anything. Frank loved to golf, bowl, and go on fishing trips to Canada with his wife and grandchildren, above all he loved his family and the time he spent with them.
He was a member of the Howland Community Church, the Carol F Clapp Masonic Lodge, and the Order of the Scottish Rite.
He leaves behind his two children Charlotte (Will) Finney of Howland and Bradley Crew of Cortland. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lucille, his son Denny Crew, his daughter Joyce Snyder, and his brother Leo Crew.
Private services will be held at a later date.
Arrangements were handled by Selby Funeral Home.
He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
