"Home in Heaven"
Leavittsburg - Gary L. Smith was surrounded by loving family and pastoral care on Sunday, 15 September 2013, as he peacefully departed for his eternal home following a brief illness. Gary was 60. He was lifelong resident of the area, son of Thomas Smith and Betty Sutton Smith. He was born 29 November 1952.
A 1971 graduate of LaBrae High School, Mr. Smith had retired from General Motors, Delphi Division (Packard Electric), where he provided quality control and instructional support to other operators. Gary reluctantly retired after more than 30 years of service.
Gary loved people, work and movies. One of his favorite pass-times was impersonating movie stars or singers. He loved to make people laugh and was generous to a fault.
A spiritual man with deep faith in God, Gary attended church services when able. He planned to travel to see Europe and the Shroud of Turin. He was a member of Moose Lodge, chapter 186.
Gary is survived by his mother Betty Sutton Smith (Thomas) of Leavittsburg, OH to whom he was a constant companion and caregiver after he retired from Delphi more than seven years ago. His brother Clyde Smith (Linda) of Jupiter, FL, sister Faye Reznick (Andy) of Millersville, MD. Additionally Gary leaves nephews Thomas W. Smith II (Cheryl) of Apopka, FL, Randy Stelk (Stacie) of Howland, OH, and nieces Shannon Smith of Tallahassee, FL and Ardina Pawloski (Ken) of Warren, OH.
Gary's brief time on Earth made it a better place. Come home, good and faithful servant. Suppers waiting at the Father's table.
A memorial service will be held at the Crown Hill Burial Park's Chapel, Vienna, OH on Sunday, 22 September 2013 at 3:00 p.m. There will be no calling hours.
Selby Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
