Canfield - George William Diamond, 81, of Canfield, passed away Saturday, February 1, 2014 after a brief illness. He was born February 5, 1932 in Girard, Ohio the son of Dorothy P. (Patton) and George J. Diamond. George graduated from Girard High School and enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served honorably. Mr. Diamond retired after 32 years from Campbell, Ohio LTV Steel and the former Sheet and Tube Plant where he was a supervisor. He was a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church in Canfield and had been a parishioner at St. Jude's Catholic Church in Columbiana where he sang in the choir.

George is survived by his sweetheart, Joan Cummings of Canfield; daughter, Caroline S. Pavlich of Pennsylvania; sons, William A. Diamond of Pennsylvania and Michael E. (Rose) Diamond of Youngstown; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Kathryn Diamond of Girard; and a son-in-law, Michael Gunter.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife in 2008, Genevieve C. (Skura) Diamond to whom he had been married to for 54 years; daughter, Kathryn A. Diamond-Gunter; and three brothers, Edward, William and Frederick Diamond.

A committal service will be held, Thursday, February 6, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at the Crown Hill Burial Park and Mausoleum, Chapel of Love, 3966 Warren-Sharon Rd., Vienna, Ohio, where military honors will be performed by American Legion Post #540.

A memorial mass celebrating George's life will be held at a later date at St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, 350 N. Broad St., Canfield, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial in memory of George to the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society or the Paralyzed Veterans of America.
