Warren - George E. Yovich, Sr. 87, of Cortland, Ohio died peacefully at 6:15 pm, Sunday, August 22, 2010 at Trumbull Memorial Hospital surrounded by family.
George was born in East Brady, PA on November 19, 1922, son of the late George and Lucy (Ivcic) Yovich.
He was the owner of George Yovich & Son Excavating Co. and also worked for Warren Engineering Co. in Warren, Oh.
He was a member of Operating Engineers Local #66, and was in the construction business for over 55 years.
He was a veteran of World War II and served with the U.S. Marine Corp. He was a Corporal serving in the Pacific Theater.
Mr. Yovich enjoyed auto racing and boating. He was a member of the Pymatuning Outboard Motor Club.
Survivors include his wife Helen June (Smelko) Yovich whom he married on April 10, 1948; son George (Patricia) Yovich, Jr. of Cortland; daughter Judith (Herbert) Yovich - Shewman of Scottsdale, AZ; three grandchildren, Jessica Yovich of Chicago, IL, Whitney Birch and Courtney Bennett, both of Indianapolis, IN; and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Lucy Binben and Mary Cheredar both of Warren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Stephen Yovich.
Private services were held August 25, 2010 at Selby-Simpson Funeral Home Chapel Mausoleum in Vienna, OH and the entombment was made in Crown Hill Burial Park.
