Cortland - Jean Louise Whitman, 86, of Cortland, died at her residence Friday, August 27, 2010.
Jean was born November 11, 1923 in Mineral City, OH, the daughter of Charles and Mildred (Knutson) Cooper.
During WWII, Jean worked building aircraft for the war. Later at at Hercules Engine Company, she worked building diesel engines. Jean retired from Packard Electric Corp. where she worked in the wiring harness department.
Jean married Robert G. Whitman on August 26, 1960. Robert passed away in September of 2000.
Jean enjoyed bird watching and was a member of the DAV Auxiliary and enjoyed the DAV Aerobics.
She leaves behind one son, Charles Smith, at home; and two grandchildren, Rob and Becky Smith.
Preceding Jean are her parents, husband, and two brothers, Don and Gary Cooper.
Visitation will be Friday at 11:00 am with the funeral service at noon at Crown Hill Chapel Mausoleum in Vienna.
