IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jeanie Z
Gerlach
September 16, 1947 – January 29, 2025
Jeanie Gerlach, 77, passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2025. She was born on September 16, 1947 in Youngstown, OH; a daughter of Eugene E. SR and Opal Mae (Coleman) Lockney.
Jeanie was a part of the 1966 graduating class of Howland High School. She also received her S.M.E.A from the Bible Institute in Transfer, PA. Jeanie worked as a Clerk for Goodwill Industries for many years.
Jeanie enjoyed her time visiting and walking in Jesus footsteps in Jerusalem. She made several trips to Guatemala where she worked with the missionaries. While living in Youngstown, Ohio, Jeanie attended Highway Tabernacle Church and the First Baptist Church. Jeanie knew the WRTA bus routes so well, she would direct those drivers she perceived as being new! She was well known to all of the drivers as she was the lady with the walker that had so many bags of 'essentials and shopping bags that they used the chair lift to get her on and off the bus. Until Jeanie's health made it impossible to live independently, she was always on the go. WRTA took her to the stores, post office, doctor's appointments. She had hundreds of pen pals and wrote to every one of them until recent years when her eye sight became poor. Jeanie wrote to dignitaries around the world. Her proudest thank-you letter response came from the Queen. While in long term care, Jeanie's many friends would visit her. She loved every minute of it. Thechildren from both churches made her cards that she treasured. This world is definitely a better place to all who knew Jeanie. She is greatly missed by all who visited and called her.
Jeanie leaves behind her daughters Sabine (Bob) Ahrens of FL, Christiane Smith; son Gary Gerlach; 2 grandchildren Gary Jr. (Kara) Gerlach, Kyle (Savannah) Gerlach; 1 great grandchild Kaige Gerlach; brothers Henry (Mary) Lockney of Howland, OH and Eugene "Eddie" Lockney Jr. of Salem, OH and her very close friend Kathlene Anerino of Warren, OH.
Predeceasing her were her husband Charles J. Gerlach Jr. and a sister Sharon Lockney.
Special thanks to Harmony Hospice for the special care they took of Jeanie.
