Joe Pishotti 1933 - 2013

CORTLAND - Joe Pishotti, 79, peacefully passed away due to kidney failure on Sunday, April 14, 2013, at his Cortland home surrounded by his family.

Born on June 22, 1933 to Mary and Joseph Pishotti Sr., Joe was one of 10 siblings and is survived by his sister, Thomasine (Jerry) Mauger; his daughter, Michelle (Trev) Stineman; three grandsons, Cory (Jessica) Bradley, Nathan Bradley and T.L. Stineman; and his son, Craig Pishotti and Craig's partner, Dennis Thomas.

Dolores Pishotti, his wife of 49 years and Howland High School sweetheart, preceded him in death on June 1, 2003. To say Joe lived a full life is an understatement.

After high school, he served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955, and then worked as a foreman at Republic Steel, later known as LTV and WCI Steel, for 39 years.

Joe believed in the spirit of giving and was one of the earliest members of the Optimist Club of Bazetta-Cortland, whose motto, ''Friend of the Youth,'' served to inform and guide his considerable philanthropic efforts. Joe took this mission to heart, significantly contributing to his community through extensive fundraising initiatives which developed sports facilities, educational scholarships and programs, all designed to enhance the quality of life for the young people of the area.

Over the course of more than 30 years Joe played leading roles as president and member, resulting in the fundraising and development plans to create the baseball fields behind Lakeview High School, the donation of the land for the ball fields at Imagination Station, and the acquisition and development of Candlelite Knolls. Additionally Joe's vision for enhanced educational opportunities funded multiple college scholarships. He also was a significant contributor to the Lakeview Athletic Boosters.

Known as a kind, generous and loving father, grandfather, brother, husband and friend, Joe leaves behind a wonderful testament to a life well-lived and well-loved. His example has taught his family to cherish the important things in life: selflessness, integrity, honesty, respect and love. He knew his most important role was to provide exceptional opportunities and care for his family, which he accomplished with complete love and great dedication. He will be profoundly missed.

Visitation will begin at the church at 9 a.m.Wednesday at Bazetta Christian Church, 4131 Bazetta Road, Cortland, where funeral services will follow at 11 a.m.

Interment will be at Crown Hill Cemetery.
