Lester B. Pfeifer 1926 - 2010

Girard – Lester B. (Dutch) Pfeifer, 83, of Lincoln Ave., Girard died Sunday morning, February 21, at Northside Hospital, after a long illness.

Lester was born in Evans City, PA on May 9, 1926 the son of Lester F. and Edna Kaufman Pfeifer.

He came to this area from Ellwood City, PA in 1954.

Lester served during WWII in the Army as a Private First Class in the 4th Armored Division, serving in the European, Africa and Middle Eastern Campaigns. He received the WWII Victory Medal and was honorably discharged in August of 1946.

He was employed as a greenhouse worker in Harmony, PA and later at Jones & Laughlin Steel in Aliquippa, PA. He worked at Youngstown Sheet & Tube Co. Brier Hill Works in the maintenance department and retired in 1980.

Lester was a member of the First Christian Church in Girard, VFW Post 419 and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie 2172.

Lester was an avid camper, fisherman and hunter, snagging many trophy size fish from Mosquito Lake.

Beside his wife, the former Helen Stich Pfeifer whom he married on June 28, 1952, in Middle Lancaster, PA, Lester leaves to cherish his memory two Daughters; Sandra L. (Vito) Marsco of Girard, and Diane M. (Thomas) Pustay of Liberty; four grandchildren, Amber L. (Mario) Curtis of Manhattan, KS, Ashley M. Pustay of Lake Geneva, WI, Suzanne L. Marsco and Danielle M. Marsco both of Girard; two sisters; Dorothy (Virgil) Valk of Tuscon, AZ, Ruth Dambaugh of Evans City, PA; a step-sister, Louise "Bess" Barolak of PA.

Lester was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Dean Pfeifer and Darel Pfeifer and sisters, June Koch and Madelyn Stewart.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm and Friday from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, one hour prior to the funeral service at 11:00 am, at the Crown Hill Chapel Mausoleum in Vienna.

The family would like to thank the staff and doctors of Northside Medical Center for their care and support.

Selby – Simpson Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements. Burial will be in Crown Hill Burial Park.
