Winter Garden, FL - After a long, brave struggle with dementia, Martha Schmitt passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 26, 2016, in Winter Garden, FL.
Martha was born January 15, 1929 in Marion Center, PA, the daughter of Nathan and Twila North.
She was a graduate of Marion Center High School and was a 35 year employee of Packard Electric in Warren, retiring in 2000.
Martha married Walter Schmitt in 1975. Walter passed away in 2003.
Her life was filled with love from her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. During her life, she enjoyed traveling, especially to Vienna, Austria. She was a fantastic cook and loved her many dogs and cats. She was affectionately known as Miss Personality and the Purple Lady at her home away from home at Serenades Memory Center, in Winter Garden, FL. She will be greatly missed by everyone.
Martha leaves behind her son, Robert Franklin of Champion; daughters, Beverley (John) Heberling of Winter Garden, FL and Robin (Ross) Major of Tuscon, AZ. She also leaves behind five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, Michael (Chris) Cope and daughter Jen of Cortland, Rhonda Williams (Seth MaCalen Hopkinson) of Warren, Chandler Williams, Jennifer Major of Tuscon, AZ, Landon Major of Tuscon, AZ, Ryan (Alexis) Major of New Orleans and Rossi (Denise A.) Dodge of Tuscon AZ.
Services for Martha will be held Saturday, with calling hours beginning at 12:00 pm, and the funeral service to start at 1:00 pm, at Crown Hill Burial Park in Vienna. Officiating will be Pastor Dan Cesene.
