1934 - 2016

Austintown - Rev. Dewey J. Salyers, Sr., 82, of Austintown, passed away Monday, June 20th, 2016, surrounded by his family.

Dewey was born on May 13, 1934 in Omar, West Virginia, the son of Dewey and Ada Buryel Spradlin Salyers.

At one time he lived in Madison, OH and was a machinist for 31 years at TRW. He also owned and operated Dewey Electric for 25 years . He was an ordained minister for The Church of God and pastored Lanterman Road Church of God for six years.

Dewey served in the United States Marine Corps, and was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians.

He married the former Patricia A. Hollingsworth on February 16, 1957.Together they had six sons and three daughters. He is survived by his wife, Patricia, sons Rick J. (Kathy) Salyers, of Myrtle Beach, SC, David M. (Sharon) Salyers of Rock Creek, OH, Dewey Jr. (Roberta) Salyers of Vienna, Timothy S. Salyers of Madison, OH, Adam (Kelly) Salyers of Florence, KY and Grover C. (Beth) Salyers of Parma, OH. Their daughters are Connie S Salyers of Columbus, OH, Patrice C. (Joe) Land of Butler, KY, and Candace L. Salyers of Austintown, OH. He also leaves behind to cherish his memory 24 Grandchildren and 27 Great-Grandchildren.

He was preceeded in death by his parents, sisters, Avanell, Elaine, Ermalee and Evangeline all of West Virginia, and a granddaughter, Melissa Dawn.

Services will be held at the Praise Cathedral Church of God located at 608 Iowa Avenue in Niles, OH. Visitation will be Friday, June 24th from 10 am until noon followed by the funeral service at noon. Burial will be at the Crown Hill Burial Park in Vienna, OH.

The family requests material tributes be sent to the Praise Cathedral Church of God.
