Steve "Barney" Kantor 1918 - 2013

Dayton - Steve "Barney" Kantor, 94, of Dayton, died Saturday, August 3, 2013 at The Sanctuary at Wilmington Place, in Dayton, Ohio.

Barney was born December 22, 1918 in Seanor, Pa, the son of Michael and Mary Toth.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII, and served in the Pacific Theater.

Barney retired from General American Transportation (GATX) after over 30 years of employment, in 1981, primarily as a painter.

He was a member of the Sharpsville VFW, and longtime resident of Masury.

Barney was proud of his days as a varsity football player for the Sharpsville Blue Devils. In his later years, Barney was an avid sports fan, race horse handicapper, and an enthusiastic walker at Buhl Park.

Barney leaves behind a son, Stephen Kantor of Leicester, England; a daughter, Mary Beth

Caudill of Dayton, OH; two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a longtime companion, Ida Sechler.

Preceding Barney in death are his parents; his wife, Michaline Mentrek; two sisters, Helen Higgins and Margaret Jennings; four brothers, Michael Canter, John Kantor, Joseph Kantor and Louis Kinton, and a granddaughter.

Visitation will be Friday, from 10 am to 11 am, with the funeral service at 11 am, at Crown Hill Chapel Mausoleum in Vienna, Ohio.

Burial will take place at Crown Hill Burial Park.

Arrangements were entrusted to Selby Funeral Home in Vienna.
