McAllen, Texas - "Willie" Willard Harold Williams, age 80, passed on Friday, August 31, 2012 at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance Heart and Vascular Hospital in McAllen, TX.
Mr. Williams retired to Texas and had previously lived in Vienna, OH.
Mr. Williams was born January 24, 1932 in Hamlet, WV to Albert L. and Alma F. (Durrett) Williams, and grew up in Nallen, WV.
He married Emma Christine Haynes on August 26, 1959 in Russellville, WV.
From West Virginia, he came to work at Republic Steel in Youngstown, OH, where he spent 11 years. He then went to work, in 1964, for Packard Electric Division of General Motors in Warren, where he was a tool & die maker until he retired November 1, 1991. He and Christine also worked for Arkansas Delivery Service, delivering new school buses with hs good friend, David Cawthon of Colorado.
Mr. Williams referred to himself as a "jack of all trades, master of none." He restored numerous vehicles including a 1942 GMC truck, a 1957 Chevy, a 1964 Impala and lastly his 1972 Chevrolet pickup he nicknamed "Ol Red", that he had purchased new, and drove to work every day.
He and his wife also travelled in their motor home and visited all 48 states. In 1999, they settled in Edinburg, TX, but still returned to Ohio every year. During this time he made computers his hobby and became very knowledgeable and was almost always working on his "pooter".
Mr. Williams is survived by his wife of 53 years, Emma Christine, two daughter and one son. Patricia (David) Collins and their children, Nicole and Kevin of Vienna. Margaret Haynes of Cortland, Les (Betty Ann) Williams of Warren, and six other grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents, an infant brother, Albert; a sister, Hazel Hill; a daughter ,Catherine Miller McGraw; and a grandson, Bobby Miller.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the Doctors Hospital at Renaissance Heart & Vascular Hospital, third floor, for the care and compassion shown to both Mr. Williams and the family during his stay.
The family will receive family and friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday and the funeral service will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Crown Hill Chapel Mausoleum in Vienna.
Burial will be in the Vienna Twp. Cemetery.
The family will have Mr. Williams transported to his final resting place in his restored 1972 Chevrolet pickup, which he gave to his grandson, Kevin Collins.
