Obituary

William Bunkley, 85, longtime resident of Vienna, passed away on Thursday, June 17, 2014 in Cockeysville, Maryland.

He was born on March 7, 1929 in Youngstown, Ohio the son of Sentenial and Ardella (nee Wallace) Bunkley. William graduated from the East High School Class of 1947 and enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served honorably until his discharge in 1950.
Mr. Bunkley obtained his bachelor's degree from Youngstown College in 1954 and received his Master of Arts in Public Administration and Master of Science in Engineering in 1975 from The Ohio State University.
He was employed as a civil engineer for the Ohio Department of Transportation, where he served as Deputy Director of District #4 and was the first African-American to serve in that position in the State. He was also Deputy Director of Planning and Programming for the entire state of Ohio. Bill retired from ODOT after over 30 years of service.
William was a member of Vienna Presbyterian Church, where he was an ordained Elder, sang in the church choir and taught youth bible study. He enjoyed playing one of the three kings in many Christmas Pageant's.
A longtime resident of Vienna he served as township trustee and was a member of the community advisory council for the Air Force Base. Mr. Bunkley was a member of the Ohio and Trumbull County Societies of Professional Engineer's, Past-President of the Vienna Kiwanis Club and Key Club Advisor, Ohio State Advocate, and enjoyed participating in the Robert's Deliberating Club.
He enjoyed traveling with his wife to every continent, playing tennis and golf, and participating in the Senior Olympics, where he received several medals.
Mr. Bunkley is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Doris (nee Thompson) Bunkley, whom he married on June 29, 1957 in Youngstown; sons, William B. Bunkley and Drs. Darrell T. (Jennifer) Bunkley, Sr.; sisters, Elizabeth and Juanita Bunkley; grandchildren, Elisha, Elias, Darrell, Jr., Benjamin and Rhythm; and many nieces, nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and several brother's and sister's.
Funeral services will be held, Monday, July 7, 2014 at 11:30 A.M. at the Crown Hill Burial Park and Mausoleum Chapel, 3966 Warren-Sharon Rd., Vienna, with Rev. Judith Bender, of Vienna Presbyterian Church, officiating. Family will receive friends at the Mausoleum Chapel on Sunday, July 6 from 6 to 8 PM.
